The Australian Greens are calling on Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett to immediately list the koala as a vulnerable species until more information about the nation-wide numbers and health is known.

In Sydney with NSW Senate candidate Lee Rhiannon today, Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said a national inquiry into long-term health of koala populations is needed.

Greens act for national water efficiency plan

In the Senate the Australian Greens will move to introduce national mandatory water efficiency standards for residential and commercial buildings after the federal election.

Visiting the Darling Downs today Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said the Greens would stand up for farming communities against multinational mining companies.

Senator Brown met with Glenn Beutel, the last resident of the town of Acland (former pop. 250) after the buy up of all other properties by coal mining companies.

Greens will protect Coral Sea

The Australian Greens today announced a new plan to protect the Coral Sea environment from oil and gas extraction, unsustainable fishing and pollution.

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown said a new Coral Sea Marine Reserve would protect one of Australia's most magnificent marine areas.

"The Coral Sea is home to many endangered species including but only 1% is protected," said Senator Brown.
